BitchBuzz Review: 100 Hot Sex Positions

By Lori Smith

Do you usually go for the same sexual positions with your lover, but occasionally fancy trying something a bit different?  A new book by sexpert Tracy Cox called 100 Hot Sex Positions aims to give long-term couples a few ideas on how to "spice up their sex life and rekindle the adventure".  Does it deliver on its promises?

You may remember Tracy Cox from UK television shows like The Sex Inspectors and Would Like To Meet, but she has also written a number of books on dating, sex and relationships.  With titles like SupersexSuperdateSuperflirt andQuickies, you can tell she's a woman who likes to get to the point!  She's already covered a lot of ground on the subject of sex so, 'expert' or not, Cox definitely has an awful lot of tips to share with us.

This book is a rather peculiar one to flick through.  Dorling Kindersley are, in their own words, publishers of award winning reference books so I guess it makes sense that they cover all kinds of subjects.  However, using the same sort of easy reference format for this book as they use for their other educational titles is a little disconcerting at first.  OK, so the colour-coded sections are useful if you want to flip to a page on-the-go, but it makes it look more like an instruction manual rather than a lover's guide.

However, they do manage to cancel this out a little by using photographs to illustrate the positions, rather than diagrams, so it ends up looking a bit more like something from a women's monthly glossy magazine.  The positions themselves are split up into four sections which aim to suit different moods.  There's 'heartfelt' for when you're feeling like you want something tender with lots of eye contact, 'steamy' for those raunchy moments, 'head games' for the more adventurous, and 'show off' for when you perhaps want to pretend you're starring in your own porn shoot.

As well as the 100 positions, there are additional pages with tips and advice on a variety of sex-related subjects including foreplay, quickies, spiritual sex, mismatched libidos and outdoor romps.  This makes it a more useful book than the title might suggest, as it's not just about a list of athletic suggestions for the more bendy readers out there.  There's bound to be something in here to tickle the fancy of all but the most adventurous of us.

Cox admits that the positions are really all just variations on five basic ones and that some will be tricky - if not impossible! - to try successfully, but it's this witty realism that makes the book worth checking out.  Whether or not you're the sort of person who wants to literally work their way though a list of sexual positions, there may well be something for you in this book.  Just don't judge it by its cover!
