There are times when I really just love what I do...
Seriously, where else do you get sent vibrators to test out and get to plan masturbation into your daily schedule as a work function? It is shit like this that makes the relatively low pay of being a freelance writer and blogger worth it.
I love sex and am not ashamed to say that I have a rather prolific collection of "adult toys." But, I'm an anomaly - I live in one of the most "sex positive" areas of the United States - and, I understand that sex toys, in general, still have a bad rap and are oft something that when brought up in mixed company causes blushing and uncomfortable giggles.
This is why I can wholly get behind the concept of a website like MyPleasure.com that is working to make buying a sex toy a little more mainstream. In a world where sexually transmitted diseases are just about as prevalent as the common cold, there really are only two 100% safe alternatives: abstinence, (which isn't fun for anyone) and masturbation (which is fun for EVERYONE.)
MyPleasure.com was founded by Dr. Sandor Gardos, a licensed clinical psychologist and sex therapist, as well as a board-certified sexologist who has served as a sex advice columnist for WebMD, Yahoo!, AOL, About, MSN, and Match.com.
You know when you have someone whose speciality is human sexuality endorsing a line of products that there must be a bit of thought, careful consideration and testing that goes into the selection of what is included on the website.
I have to say that I clapped my hands and got all giddy when I received my Fairy Mini Wand in the mail. It came in a plain brown box, but, inside there was the wand itself and the battary pack in a girly pink box, a little gift wrapped package that included battaries and a sample of lubricant, another little girly pink box that had an A/C adaptor in it and two "attachments" for the vibrator.
If you like the Hitachi Magic Wand, then you're going to love love LOVE the Fairy Mini Wand. It is almost identical, just smaller. The vibrator is extremely powerful (which I liked,) albeit LOUD! (I had to turn my television on to prevent my 24 yo, male, French and somewhat bashful housemate from hearing it.)
Personally, I couldn't get into the attachments which were sent with it.
One was rather scary looking and I think was supposed to emulate the feeling of a tongue. The other had the tiniest of tiny little penises on it and a little "rabbit-esque" attachment which I think was meant to stimulate the clitoris. I tried both but just ended up giggling and not focusing on the task at hand.
The plain 'ole wand was just fine for my purposes. It seemed as if the batteries last a pretty long time. They absolutely lasted long enough for me to come and go. I left them on for another 30 minutes, just sitting on my nightstand - the vibrator didn't lose power at all! Sadly, it is not rechargable and you cannot take it in the shower... AND the cord for the A/C adaptor is pretty short... It didn't make it from the wall to my bed, even.
I agree with the assessment that the Fairy Mini Wand is "mini and mighty" - it does have a variety of speeds from slow to really-fucking-fast-and-so-strong-that-it-hurts-a-little. (But in that good way.) At $59.95 it is a good value (my Lelo rechargable vibrator cost me over $200).
For ten more bucks you can get the Fairy Mini Wand COLLECTION that includes the Clitoral Cup (scary tongue thing) and Mini Attachment - which is a good value if you're into that kind of thing. I also think that because the Fairy Mini Wand doesn't look like a penis it is an ideal vibrator to try out on your boyfriend or straight-skittish male partner... As it has been my experience that many straight guys like the idea of having a vibe used on them, but get a little techy when you use one that looks like (yet, bigger & firmer) than their own member on them.
But, maybe that's just the guys I date.
Also it is important to note that vibrators don't have to just be for solo play - you can absolutely use it with your partner to enhance your sex life.
53% of women (straight or not) have reported using a vibrator and nearly half of all men have as well, according to a study recently published in the New York Times. (You can read more about it on MyPleasure.com where Dr. Gardos discusses the NYT article in depth.)
Who knew?
Well I guess I did.

O's standing for exactly what you think they stand for.
